Banin’s Journey

Banin's and her family journey to Indonesia

Omull Banin Yusufi, a young refugee girl from Afghanistan, is one of the thousands of people who are forced to flee their home country and risk their lives to find peace. Omull Banin and her family arrived in Indonesia in 2017 not knowing about their destiny.

” In Afghanistan, there’s only war and danger. There’s no freedom, no peace, and no security. We had to escape to stay alive. Coming to Indonesia, I had hoped to live in a better situation and hopefully resettle as soon as possible but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. It’s almost 4 years that we’re living here not knowing when we’ll resettle and just waiting for some news from the United Nations office. “

Life in Indonesia

Living in Indonesia is very difficult especially for a refugee when you don’t have the right to educate or work. It had and still has a negative effect on my life. My family and I went through tuff times facing different challenges in language, financially and mentally. There is nothing we can do here, thankfully I came to know about Refutera and joined last year. Refutera and the members helped me experience a new environment such as handcrafting which I learned when I was very young. I also joined the English class provided by JRS to learn English. Sitting with the ladies tailoring, crafting, and creating beautiful products has changed my mood. It helped me stay away from all the stress I had. – says Omull Banin
